Madam, – Megan McKinney (April 27th) checked Iarnród Éireann fares online prior to travelling from Limerick to Dublin, and saw that online fare offers began at €15, but was unhappy to pay more at the booking office. The same notice on our website clearly states this fare is only available online, as is the case with the best offers for most transport operators. Similarly, she could have saved as much as €22 had she booked her Connolly-Sligo ticket online, rather than purchasing it at the booking office.

Our online fares provide the opportunity for significant savings over booking office prices. Ms McKinney draws the comparison with air travel to England. However, if she were to similarly purchase her air ticket at the sales desk at Dublin Airport on the day of travel, she would undoubtedly find the differential from her airline’s online offer to be even greater. – Yours, etc,
