Madam, – A union leader is complaining that public servants have taken a 14 per cent pay cut and should not have any further reductions (Home News, October 4th). The public service unions and their members are living in cloud cuckoo land.

All public servants receive increments, and these more than make up for salary reductions over a two-year period. A 7 per cent pension contribution is the least expensive pension provision on the planet.

Public servants still have salary and benefit levels in excess of those in the private sector. Come on, public sector, waken up to the sufferings in the private sector and among the unemployed. Why should private sector workers fund pensions for other workers which are better than their own? – Yours, etc,
