A chara, - Two distinct early name-forms are mistakenly conflated in your obituary of January 15th on the late McGillycuddy of the Reeks (resquiescat).
The eponymous chief of the relevant sept, a branch of O Sullivan Mór, was Giolla Mhochuda, servant or devotee of Mo-Chuda, not of Mo-Chua as is stated twice in the obituary. May he also rest, now that you may have disturbed his dust where it has lain for centuries!
Mo-Chuda was the honorific hypocoristic (or pet) form of the name St Cárthach (or Carthage) of Rahan and of Lismore - and there was also St Cárthach of Seirkieran in Offaly.
Mo-Chua, on the other hand, was the honorific hypocoristic for St Crónán - many bearers in this case.
Both forms, or rather their anglicisations, abound in our nomenclature; but, I'm sure you will agree, they need to be kept distinct. To conflate then would be to confuse Kilmacud and many of our Kilmacow placenames, for instance. - Is mise,
