Sir, - The number of fatal, single-vehicle accidents on our roads is an immense human tragedy. One avenue of explanation may have been neglected or ignored: power steering. The overcompensation by a driver of a vehicle (especially at speed) which is veering slightly off course due to circumstance, poor road conditions or driver error may result in the vehicle going completely out of control.
Power steering may be responsible for the majority of single-vehicle accidents and many multiple-vehicle accidents. I would be obliged to hear what the experts have to say. - Yours, etc., Rory Lehane,
Broadale, Douglas, Cork.
