Sir, - On page 6 of your first edition of 1988, I read that our Taoiseach wholeheartedly welcomed the Pope's message for the World Day of Peace. The report stated that Mr Ahern "strongly endorsed the Pope's sentiments regarding the universality and indivisibility of human rights."On page 12 of the same paper, Pope John Paul II was quoted as saying, in his "World Day of Peace" message, that "globalisation of the world's economy had to go hand in hand with solidarity" and that "the process of globalisation under way in the world needs to be orientated in the direction of equity and solidarity to avoid the marginalisation . . . of people and groups . . ."I, too, welcome the Pope's words. It worries me, however, that our recent Budget isn't at all consistent with Mr Ahern's "wholehearted endorsement" of the Pope's core message.-Yours, etc.,Colm Roddy,Bayside Walk,Dublin 13.
