Madam, - On Monday November 29th last, Labour, Fine Gael, Green and Fianna Fáil Dublin city councillors voted to increase the bin tax to €340 per year.

There is no public record of the vote. Why? Because the councillors don't want you to know how they voted. Only the three Independent councillors wanted each councillor's vote to be recorded, and asked for a roll-call vote. However, this was refused because the rule states that five councillors must request the roll-call. Not one councillor for any of the parties would support the three independents. Why? Because all the party councillors were part of the bin tax betrayal.

So the next time you hear the political parties spinning about "Rip-off Ireland", ask them why they support the increase in bin tax to €340 a year. - Yours, etc.,

FINIAN McGRATH, TD, (Independent), Dublin North Central, Dáil Éireann, Dublin 2.
