A chara, - The introduction of the notorious 1993 tax amnesty by the Fianna Fail/Labour coalition will go down in history as probably the single most shameful decision taken by any Irish government.

Not only was it a clear betrayal of PAYE workers, who were emerging from a decade of extreme hardship, but it marked the beginning of serious discontent and disillusionment with the political establishment and the three main conservative parties, Fianna Fail, Fine Gael and Labour.

As revelation after revelation of sleaze and corruption now emerge from the Flood Tribunal and other sources, surely it is time for the Government to reveal the names of all politicians who availed of that tax amnesty. There is no justification for hiding from the electorate the names of politicians who engaged in defrauding this State. If the public is to regain any confidence in the political establishment,

With this in mind, I proposed a motion to Sligo Corporation last month calling for all politicians who availed of the tax amnesty to be named. This motion was adopted. I urge other councils to do likewise and help to put pressure on the Government to reveal the names at once. - Is mise,
