Sir, - I was interested to learn from Eoghan Harris's criticism of Ed Holt's television review of his "prophetic" Channel 4 programme that a short leather jacket "is a symbol of the left, not "of the right" (June 24th). I didn't appreciate that clothes meant so much. And I had no idea that the price of a change of political view, such as Mr Harris has himself undergone from Worker's Party member to Fine Gael supporter, was not only the anguish of rejection of all one's own once deeply held views, but also an entire change of wardrobe. Poor man! Worried Fine Gaelers must charitably presume that the short leather jacket in question is a hang over from the past.
Not only is the amazing Mr Harris able to deduce Mr Holt's politics from the TV review, he is probably also able to tell what colour of underpants he wears. - Yours, etc.,
