Sir, - Denis Gill (October 25th), states that the Government has a duty to plan for the management of immigrants, with particular reference to the situation of pregnant women who arrive in Ireland.

His call is timely in light of a statement made by the Irish Medical Association about the serious health effects that the current system of dispersal can have on asylum-seekers.

IMO spokesman Dr Ronan Boland has stated that the involuntary movement of pregnant women to different parts of the country shortly before they are due to give birth is causing concern to doctors. Perhaps any new "management system" adopted by the Government would consider a more humane approach in the case of pregnant women who are seeking asylum here. - Yours, etc.,
