Sir, - Allow me to reply to Andy Carlisle's magnificent gallop to the defence of the US (April 21st) in response to my complaint (April 19th) that many UN member states - including the US - were not paying their bills to the UN, resulting in a financial crisis within that body, leading to considerable arrears in payments to troop-contributing countries, including Ireland.
Rather than engaging in histrionics - including a quite unnecessary swipe at Mr de Valera - perhaps the facts can be addressed. Does the US intend to honour its commitments to the UN or not? If not, why not? - Yours, etc.,
