Madam, - UK Conservative MEP Roger Helmer calls (July 9th) for the abolition of the EU Parliament because "the parliament does little but allow MEPs to grandstand and posture without a second thought about the consequences of their actions".

Anyone who has watched the weekly pageantry of Prime Minister's Question Time at Westminster, with its choreographed booing and cheering, will instantly recognise Mr Helmer's description of grandstanding.

Perhaps he should begin his abolition closer to home? After all, UK legislation could easily be handled at county council level, couldn't it? - Yours, etc,

Madam, - Roger Helmer claims that the EU parliament "does little but allow MEPs to grandstand and posture". Perhaps he has not read his own letter. I submit that "we" will not "lose our home-grown food".
