Madam, – While cycling down Merrion Street in Dublin on May 12th I noticed that many of the parking spaces on the square were occupied by unmanned taxis, not a single one of which boasted a “pay and display” permit.

The garda on duty outside the Dáil informed me that the drivers were protesting.

Next time I feel a need to agitate against consumer interests, can I too enjoy free parking? – Yours, etc,
