Sir, – It is utter madness how the euro area is dealing with the economic problems. With 58 per cent youth unemployment in Greece, its government has been forced by the ECB to increase the retirement age to 67 years.
This will have the direct effect of reducing the number of jobs that will be available within the economy, thus further reducing the likelihood of these young people getting employment. This logic will have the effect of creating a disaffected youth population which will have repercussions for the future, which we are all likely to regret. – Yours, etc,
