Madam, – You are to be commended for your recent coverage of commemorations held to mark the 70th anniversary of the bombing of the North Strand. For decades similar events were virtually ignored and indeed the 50th anniversary in 1991 passed without being reported by the national media. It is heartening to see this injustice being redressed.
The rekindling of interest in the 1941 bombing is due in no small part to the extraordinary efforts of the Dublin City Library Archive and the historian Dr Kevin C Kearns. Their recent work in documenting the oral, written and photographic records of the bombing and its victims are an immeasurable contribution to the recorded history of Dublin and an invaluable resource for future generations. – Yours, etc,
