Sir, - James McClatchie suggests that the GAA's refusal to permit a soccer fund-raiser on its Omagh pitch amounted to an act of "idolatrous worship" (September 15th). Were the GAA members who died in the Omagh bombing "idolatrous worshippers"? Were the dozens of other GAA members injured in the tragedy "idolatrous worshippers"?

Given that he has raised the linguistic stakes, Mr McClatchie might ponder the "blasphemy" of using the deaths of 29 people as an excuse to have a go at the GAA or indeed any other organisation in such circumstances. - Yours, etc.,
