Sir, – Jacky Jones grasps the problem of unemployment in Ireland (Second Opinion, HEALTHplus, March 13th). Jobs are and will only be available for a minute number of people for the foreseeable future.

We must take enlightened action now. Responsibly dividing existing jobs, through a four-day week, would lead to an increase in employment of 25 per cent on existing numbers and give back self-respect to many who now suffer through unemployment. – Yours, etc,
