Madam, - Being from the south of the country I will, with difficulty, refrain from making a judgement about David Trimble and many of his colleagues in the present sad impasse.

However, I may in the future be presented with a choice as to whether or not I should vote for Gerry Adams or some of his Sinn Féin colleagues and I feel this qualifies me to make a few observations.

Mr Adams was seen on television over the Easter period addressing people in paramilitary uniforms and could be heard frequently referring to "the army" in most brotherly terms. He has consistently claimed over the years that he is not and was never a member of the IRA. I don't believe him and I suspect many thousands of other people on this island don't believe him.

Until such time as Mr Adams has the "bottle" to come out and confirm that the war is over and "the army" is disbanded, I for one will never vote for anyone in Sinn Féin.
