Sir, - The Taoiseach gets more confusing about the resignation of Ned O'Keeffe. Why can't he set out plainly and simply the sequence of events, and settle the matter? The questions that need an answer are these.Did Ned O'Keeffe talk to the Taoiseach himself on the Friday at 4 p.m. to tender his resignation? If he did, then why did the Taoiseach not know this on the Saturday? If the Minister did not, to whom did he speak, and why was this information kept from the Taoiseach? Why did Ned O'Keeffe announce his resignation to one journalist from RTÉ, when such a matter of national importance is usually announced by a press statement to all media organisations? Who made that decision? Was it the Taoiseach, his office, or Ned O' Keeffe? What is going on?These are a crucial questions, and require an answer. If the Taoiseach's Department will not provide one, maybe the media can do so by use of the Freedom of Information Act. Something does not add up in all this and it is time the people were told. Government must be fair and open to succeed, or do we learn nothing from the tribunals? - Yours, etc.,Barry Keane, College Road, Cork.
