Madam, - I was very glad to see the half-column headed "State Papers" in your edition of January 2nd, as it gave the postal and website addresses of the archival institutions to which the "State Papers" have been transferred and where they are now available for inspection by the public.

I know from personal experience that many people read about the annual releases of mostly 30-year-old government archives without realising that the original archives are held either in the National Archives or in one of our sister institutions in Northern Ireland and Britain. For that reason, I greatly prefer the relevant pages to be headed "National Archives" rather than "State Papers".

Unfortunately, your half-column of January 2nd left out a letter "s" in our postal and web addresses. Our web address is www.nationalarchives.ie. - Yours etc,

DAVID V. CRAIG, Director, National Archives,  Bishop Street, Dublin 8.
