Sir, - I have travelled by train to Dublin for many years now. This used to be a relaxing way of avoiding tailbacks and gridlock, with, perhaps, a snooze en route. This is no longer the case.
I had occasion to use the train recently but my trip to Dublin was spoiled utterly by the incessant ringing of the ubiquitous mobile phones. At one stage I was assailed by four different tones chiming away simultaneously. Can I be the only one to suffer high levels of irritation at this vulgar intrusion?
Perhaps it is time for Iarnrod Eireann to consider setting aside one carriage on its main routes as a mobile-phone-free area. - Yours, etc.,
Gerry Lawless(mobile phone owner), Castleblakeney, Ballinasloe, Co Galway.
