Sir, - Tony Booth (February 29th) sparked a reaction of total frustration as I read his reference to "latecomers". I too almost missed the action as I tried to get into town recently for a National Concert Hall performance starting at 7.30 p.m.
At 4.30 p.m. I tried to book a local taxi for 6.30 p.m. My request was met with utter disbelief at the very suggestion. I was told to phone back at "sixish". In my ignorance, I did so. No phones were answered so I left for the bus stop at 6.30 p.m. I was met with a steady stream of buses all "out of service". At 6.57 p.m. one did arrive "in service". I eventually arrived at the NCH with "doors closing in three minutes".
The performance in question was marvellous. However, I was not. I really think it is time we pedestrians had a strike. - Yours, etc.,
