Sir, - What makes T. O'Connor (October 21st) think God is confined to a church building? It is my experience that many people who never enter a church these days have a deeper interest in God and religious questions than some of those who frequent churches. So it seems to me a good thing that worship should be taken into the so-called "secular" world.
Having attended a number of Christian concerts in the NCH, I think it is an admirable venue for a millennium celebration. The comfort, the ambience and the technical facilities all combine to make a venue which will help people to worship in the atmosphere of the dawning 21st century. Most churches create an atmosphere of at least a century ago. Isn't it a good thing that the planned worship event can be shared with the nation through the medium of TV? Churches were not made to accommodate TV cameras. Experience has shown that attempting to televise services from churches doesn't work. I congratulate the organisers of the service and say: "Let's have more worship in the wider world, as well as all that which takes place in so many churches every day." - Yours, etc.,
Rev Kenneth Lindsay, Bangor, Co Down.
