Sir, - Like Robert Greacen (January 13th), I too have noticed the poems on the Premier Dairies milk cartons. But the poems appear on the side of the cartons rather than the back, thus allowing only for an extract. Why not try a haiku, or even a limerick? Poems cannot and should not be judged, from extracts nor should their line lengths be tampered with typographically for the sake of space.
Furthermore, many of our premier poets write in Irish - Maire Mhac an Tsaoi, Michael Davitt, Biddy Jenkinson, Nuala Ni Dhomhnaill, Cathal O Searcaigh, Colm Breathnach, to name but a few, and not one of them has come with the milkman - so far. - Is me agat, go buioch beannachtach,
Gleann na gCaorach, Co Atha Cliath.
