Sir - It should be pointed out that there are many excellent biographies of Michael Collins. Neil Jordan's movie is one man's perspective on the man and his times. It's a good movie, crafted by professionals of largely Irish background. Why is everyone getting so upset about it? Could it be that we are still not ready, as a nation, to face up to certain unpalatable truths about our origins?
Perhaps this move will encourage our present day history teachers to take a more balanced view, as they teach today's children about the foundation of the state. Now that the "Collins factor" has penetrated the national conciousness, perhaps the begrudgers will look into their hearts and admit certain truths - or at least, find out certain truths by reading the books. - Yours, etc.,
