Marking the 1916 anniversary

Madam, – I attended the commemoration ceremony at the GPO on Sunday last.

Madam, – I attended the commemoration ceremony at the GPO on Sunday last.

I was appalled to see many people in uniform fail to come to attention for the playing of the National Anthem. Surely the men and women of 1916, not to mention those who have fallen or died since then, deserve that as a minimum we hold sacred our National Anthem?

It was interesting to observe people whose national language was not Irish come to silence when uniform-wearing members of national organisations did not. – Yours, etc,

JOHN SHERWIN,

Cloonagh,

Ballynagore, Co Westmeath.
