Madam, - The review of the Lassus Scholars' recent lunchtime concert ignored what was, for me, the one sour note in an otherwise enjoyable event (Reviews, August 25th).

The stage of the National Concert Hall was occupied, not by the singers, but by a distracting assortment of chairs, music-stands and instruments, placed there in readiness for a concert that evening. The performers were grouped around the organ behind and above the stage.

This arrangement distanced them from the audience, diminishing the immediacy and intimacy of the music. It also suggested that the lunchtime concert, rather than being an event in its own right, was an inconvenient prelude to the real business of the evening. It struck me as disrespectful both to the paying customers, as well as the performers. - Yours, etc,

R. HEAD,
