Sir, – Frank McDonald (Home News, February 23rd) referred to arts organisations’ reluctance to admit their critical dependence on funds from the National Lottery.

This is misleading and gives the impression that organisations like ours are not being honest about where our funding comes from. Dublin Dance Festival is indeed reliant on funding from the State, via the Arts Council.

We would gladly acknowledge the contribution of the National Lottery if we were aware of what proportion of our funding came from that source.

However, this information is not available to us, so we will continue to acknowledge the support we receive from the Arts Council, which enables us to bring vibrant, adventurous and spirit-lifting dance from home and abroad to the stages of the capital each year. – Yours, etc,
