Madam, – While our sister Confucius Institute at University College Dublin is to be congratulated on the commencement of its schools’ programme, I am afraid that your article (Home News, March 27th) announcing the “first formal Chinese teaching programme in an Irish school” is factually incorrect.

The Confucius Institute at University College Cork (in partnership with Shanghai University) launched its schools’ initiative in 2007 and is now teaching a formal programme in 23 secondary schools in Cork city and county. A total of 837 students have benefited to date. As Confucius said “truth is indestructible”, so I am sure that you will wish to correct the record. – Yours, etc,
