Sir, - It is good to see the Department of Education and the Arts Council getting together to study and perhaps address the needs of arts education. This study comes before the formulation of a new arts plan, and in the wake of Dr John O'Conor's cherished vision of a National Conservatory of Music which would be the summit of music education in our country.
But let's start with a study of foundational music, focusing particularly on the lack of access to instrumental tuition in many regions, which will ultimately be the arteries determining the health and well-being of our National Conservatory of Music. - Yours, etc., Sister Concepta Murphy,
