Sir, – It was a disgrace that gardaí used pepper spray against protesters at the Labour Party Conference (Home News, April 16th).
As a party member, I was very disappointed with the undemocratic way the conference was run, in particular the fact that two hours were taken up with a stage-managed TV debate – party members will not accept this at next year’s conference. I want to support my branch colleague Tony McDermott’s comments in this regards, and regarding the need for urgent negotiations to end the Anglo promissory notes scandal. UNITE trade union’s motion calling for economic stimulus and job creation was wrongly “referred back” ie side-lined, as the clear majority of delegates wanted the motion voted upon, and there is no doubt that the motion would have been passed, – Yours, etc,
