Sir, - On a recent visit to Ranelagh I sought the home of the late Jack MacGowran, the distinguished stage and screen actor, who was a close friend and great interpreter of the works of Samuel Beckett. To my disappointment I found that there is nothing to indicate that Jack lived at 46 Lower Beechwood Avenue for almost 40 years of his life.

With so many plaques honouring Dublin's great writers, composers, musicians, physicians etc, surely Jack MacGowran deserves similar recognition as a truly great actor, who was internationally renowned and revered? Next year marks the 80th anniversary of his birth and the 25th anniversary of his death - surely a most appropriate year to honour his memory in Ranelagh. - Yours, etc., TIM HORGAN,
