Sir, – Hats off to Fintan O’Toole (“If Ireland has changed so much, why hasn’t theatre kept pace?” Weekend Review, June 30th, 2012) for having the courage to “tell it like it is” about the current state of Irish theatre, and for recognising that the fulfilment of the sacred role of theatre in society is in its ability to reflect, evolve, transform, and not in commercial success and maintaining the status quo, which the current theatre establishment seems determined to do.

Theatre is at the forefront of the search for truth – for this to happen in Ireland a new vision is needed, one that is open and inclusive. – Yours, etc,
