Madam, – With reference to Theresa McKee’s (July 9th) regarding the refusal of entry by immigration at Dublin airport of three Texan backpackers, she asks: “Should we round up all the Irish and make sure they have proper addresses?”.
I have been a frequent visitor to the US for the past number of years, and each time I have gone over I have been required to provide the address at which I will be staying and evidence of my planned departure.
While I feel for the three gentlemen in question and indeed it does seem extraordinary that they were not permitted to start their journey after closer scrutiny of their case, they failed to comply with immigration requirements which would have also resulted in refusal of entry to the US and anyone who wishes to be angry on their behalf should acknowledge such. – Yours, etc,
