Sir, - Ireland has been having a very poor press recently, especially from visitors, because of the litter despoiling our towns and countryside.
I spent the last week in June in Lisdoonvarna on a painting holiday that entailed travelling all over the Burren and going for long walks every evening in every direction out of Lisdoonvarna.
During my stay there the total amount of litter seen would not be enough to fill a small bag. There were no dumped rubbish bags, no over-flowing bins, no burnt out cars. Everywhere was spotless, including the toilets. I even saw a young man get out of a car to rescue a plastic bag that accidently strayed from somebody else on a windy day in a car park.
Such a nice change from Dublin! Perhaps the Dublin crowd has yet to arrive in Clare. - Yours, etc.,
Maud White, Riversdale Avenue, Dublin 6.
