Madam, - I despair at the ineptitude of our politicians at all levels. Cllr Tony McDermott's ill-considered suggestion (Decem- ber 30th) of a day of mourning for the victims of the Indian Ocean tsunami smacks of bandwagonism, another day off for the boys and incompetence (January 3rd is already a bank holiday).
What would it accomplish? A visionary would have suggested a National Day of Giving - with each to donate a day's wages to a relief appeal and the Government forgoing tax to provide encouragement and maximise the amount.
