Sir, - Kevin Myers's excellent Irishman's Diary of November 18th reflected so much my own sentiments about the Armistice day commemorations. His sad acceptance of being himself an unsung hero, prompts me to comment.

I confess to having frequently disagreed with some of the contents of his column and dismissed them with much scorn, but on the subject of the first World War - a subject obviously close to his heart (and mine) - he has never wavered.

He must have derived untold joy from the outcome of a battle waged single-handedly for the past 20 years. His was not a lone voice, but the one that was heard.
