Sir, - The Irish Times has recently had what appears to be two interviews with Mrs Mary Robinson on the subject of the Human Rights Commission, as a result of which Mrs Robinson's views were related to us.

Mrs Robinson is not a private person, and The Irish Times would, I am sure, claim for itself a role in questioning Government policies. It is, I think, time that The Irish Times, and indeed the media in general, asked some hard questions of the person who occupies the position of UN Commissioner for Human Rights. Such as:

1. Having regard to the founding principles of the UN, why is it that committees within that organisation are promoting rather than opposing abortion?

2. According to Mrs Robinson's biography, two-thirds of her commission's job budget comes from private sources. How can the public be assured that no private agenda is being pursued in exchange for this munificence?- Yours, etc.
