Human rights and people with a disability

A chara, – Now that the Irish people have embraced equality and inclusivity in the recent referendum, can the Government follow their lead and extend basic inclusivity to some of our most vulnerable citizens?

The State signed up to the Convention of Human Rights for People with Disability in March 2007 but has still not ratified it. It has been ratified by 156 countries throughout the world. It is an embarrassment and an injustice that in 2015 the Government continues to allow persons with intellectual disabilities be governed by the Lunacy (Regulation) Act 1871. Hang your heads in shame! – Is mise,
