Sir, - I wish to fully endorse the sentiments so eloquently expressed by Fred O'Donovan (June 24th) bidding farewell to Dublin's Adelaide hospital after 160 years of devoted service to the people of Ireland. Words of thanks and appreciation seem so inadequate an expression for such dedicated service to the public.

May I include other recent and pending hospital closures in my appreciation? The service of Mercers, Meath and Harcourt hospital to the citizens of Dublin and Ireland was no less noble. Their passing leaves Dublin a poorer place.

As more of Molly Malone's Dublin makes way for office blocks and modern apartments, it is reassuring to know that the nurses, doctors, and related hospital staff from these institutions will be pooling their expertise, talents, compassion and commitment under one roof to continue their great work for the Irish public. We are indeed very fortunate. - Yours, etc., Thomas Cooper,

Templeogue, Dublin 16.
