Madam, - I read with sadness the article on home deliveries (March 31st), where, according to an evaluation of the National Maternity Hospital's Domino Scheme it was recommended that the scheme be developed around the country as it is so cost effective and in its four years of operation has many satified mothers.
It is a great shame that the Western Health Board and the Department of Health take no notice of such reports as they are closing the Domino scheme in Galway.
My baby was due to born under the Domino Scheme in six weeks time where after careful consideration we decided on a home birth.
This is now in jeopardy as the scheme is running on a skeleton staff where midwives are on a five-day week and will be fully withdrawn in September 2003. So there are to be no satisfied mothers in the West, not to mention the extra expense the WHB will have when it is withdrawn. - Yours expectantly,
HELENA FARRISSEY, 12 Mc Donagh Avenue,m Mervue, Galway.
