Madam, - I welcome the Minister for Justice's condemnation (The Irish Times, October 2nd) of the "Ibiza Uncovered" culture, and his highlighting of the so-called "fun image" of drunkenness and "alcohol-fuelled behaviour" in holiday resorts where young people flock annually. This hedonistic lifestyle can only be deforming for any young personality.
Yet, we see how young people yearn for challenge, as we saw during the Special Olympics 2003, when so many of them volunteered - even forgoing - to give their time and support to this very special international event.
We parents need constantly to channel our children's enthusiasm, energy - even rebelliousness - into worthwhile projects and positive cultural pursuits.
Are we prepared to take up our own challenge it and reverse the current trend?- Yours, etc.,
Mrs PHIL CASSIDY, Leopardstown Avenue, Blackrock, Co Dublin.
