Sir, – At first sight Joan Burton’s plan to allow the rich to choose whether to hand back child allowance or not looks laughable (Front page, August 14th). But in fact it is a normal attitude for Government to take when dealing with the wealthy: after all don’t they, more or less, get to choose when and how much income tax to pay too? – Yours, etc,
