Madam, - John Fagan (February 10th) predicts it will be only weeks before new granite paving stones on O'Connell Street in Dublin are fouled with chewing gum - sharing the condition of just about every other street in the city centre, and in other cities and towns throughout the Republic.
And this despite the fact that the technology is there, advertised certainly in various free-sheets, to remove such detritus. One can only wonder, especially in these times of our EU Presidency, at what if anything is being done to come to grips with this scourge.
By the way, has anyone ever read or heard of a ruminant citizen being charged with this particular offence? - Yours, etc.,
AIDAN O'HANLON, Herbert Road, Dublin 4.
