In a world of climate change, collapsing fish stocks, waste disposal crisis, mass extinction, rising suicide rates, and a global, ever-growing divergence between rich and poor, growing numbers of people are coming to believe that there are more important things than GDP and "development". A choice is being made in the Glen of the Downs - cars, speed and, of course, GDP over trees that have stood in that place for millennia. Those who so directly protest against that choice are courageous heroes, demonstrating some of the highest declared principles of our culture and religions. They are certainly not "sad". - Yours, etc.,
