Madam, – I am prompted by Peter Crawley’s article (“Getting the shows back on the road”, August 6th) to remind your readers that there are still some high-quality theatre shows on the road in these recessionary times.These are listed in The Ticket in The Irish Times every Friday by the above-mentioned writer.

My own one-man show Confessions of an Irish Publican, adapted from John B Keane, has already played 21 different venues around Ireland this year and is about to proceed to Gougane Barra, Clonmel, Wexford and The Mill, Dundrum.

My previous John B adaptation The Love-Hungry Farmer toured to over 30 Irish theatres.

Both my shows survived without subsidy of any kind, but I do agree that companies such as Druid deserve to be supported. – Yours, etc,
