Sir, - As a frequent user of public transport in this country and abroad, I have enjoyed the benefits of a cheap, efficient and courteous means of travel through nearly all the cities and countries of this world. It is with some regret, then, that I must state that there has been an exception to this rule - a body of public transport so inadequate, so unfriendly, so oblivious to time and schedule that I have been driven to put pen to paper and expose it as the colossal fraud that it undoubtedly is.This operator of whom I speak is not to be found in the jungles of deepest Cambodia, nor is it to be seen in the great desert plains of southern Egypt. It is here, right before our very eyes in our capital city that this malevolent creature is to be found. It's name? Dublin Bus: a system of public transport so hopelessly poor that it cannot run a bus on schedule, treat its customers with dignity and respect or even aspire to have an environmentally sound fleet.I have by now grown so disillusioned with this so-called provider of public transport that I intend to go private and buy a car, like so many commuters before me have been forced to do. I assure you that I have arrived at this decision to contribute to our already congested thoroughfares only after many hours of hand-wringing and soul-searching. Please excuse my weakness, but I can never bring myself to rely on Dublin Bus again. - Yours, etc., Brian Long,Roebuck Downs, Clonskeagh, Dublin 14.
