Sir, – Germany is a driving force not only regarding the finances of the country but its influence is to be found on our roads now as well.

I was driving in Ireland this weekend on the German/European Union funded motorways, principally the M50 and the M7/8.

It appears that Irish drivers have adopted the German way of driving now.

All of the cars were being driven in the right hand side lane, and when overtaking, the cars slipped to the left, overtook the car in front, and then took their positions in the right hand lane once again.

The speed limit of 120km was ignored in all cases and the drivers drove at speeds more often found on the German autobahn. – Yours, etc,
