Sir, - I was interested in the letter on fluoridation of water from Myles Crowe (April 6th). As he stated, the plain people of Ireland were not given an opportunity to refuse it. But there was an interesting legal case in the early 1960s when experts from different countries gave their opinions. Needless to say the experts differed as experts seem to do!
My father-in-law, the late Sean MacBride, argued the case against fluoridation. When I look at my children's teeth and compare them with the teeth of people of my own generation, I am fairly happy that he lost. However, as Myles Crowe says, fluoride is a cumulative poison, and maybe in the years to come my children may suffer some of the litany of deleterious effects he listed. - Yours, etc.,
