Sir, - Mary Holland's column of June 8th makes interesting reading. Perhaps not many people know that the Union Flag is actually composed of three separate flags laid one upon the other. These are the flag of St George of England, the flag of St Andrew of Scotland and the flag of St Patrick of Ireland. Even before devolution in Scotland, the flag of St Andrew graced more public buildings north of the Tweed than did the Union Flag.
What harm would there be if the flag of St Patrick was used on public buildings in the North - especially as this flag was born aeons before there ever was a border? - Yours, etc.,
