FACELESS MONEY

Sir, - Having viewed the single currency exhibition in Dublin Castle one is struck by the manner in which the use of personal portraiture is eschewed in proposed EU notes. That this practice is time honoured in coinage is indeed well exemplified in the same exhibition. Is this decision to ignore a part of European heritage, another example of a "faceless bureaucratic regulation. - Yours, etc.,

PS: I am not suggesting the resurrection of the images of princes or presidents, but the portrayal of the genius of member states in science and the arts, e.g. O Riada/ Music in the case of Ireland.
